Kill To Craft

Ask me anything   More to Read

Current knitting projects, Patterns and keeping you in touch with cool crafting.

A While ago I purchased a knitting pattern from one of my favourite designers, I just never actually made pace and started it. However at work today I went to Loops online store to treat myself, the Rosebud hat pattern I’m going to be working from calls for one or two skeins of Brooklyn Tweed Shelter. This does depend on how slouchy you want your hat, but I don’t want to commit to spending lots of money to possibly not like the end result so…….

The Shelter yarn looks so nice and at some point soon I will be trying it myself. Instead though I decided on a different worsted weight yarn from Erika Knights Vintage Knits yarn collection and there was lots of shades to choose from. I decided on a lilac shade as shown above, spring will be coming soon and I’ll still need to keep my head warm on the cooler days so this will be perfect.

Both yarns contain 100% wool but the Erika Knight’s yarn has less meterage at 87m while Shelter has 127m. You also have to contemplate the price and the difference in tension as there is a slight difference between these yarns I may have to adjust the pattern ever so slightly.

The Jared Flood Rosebud hat is very beautiful cabled design which doesn’t look too challenging but is still very elegant. The pattern is well informed with a schematic diagram with measurements, Information on materials to use and a well written pattern and chart to follow.

I can’t wait to receive my yarn from the postman to get started now.
